U.S. Air Force Set to Transform Scheduled Maintenance Programs on UAVs with Hexagon Solution
Air Force Materiel Command adopting Maintenance Steering Group-3 practices for the Global Hawk fleet27 February 2019
Chantilly, Virginia - The U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) has selected Hexagon US Federal to transform its RQ-4B Global Hawk maintenance program using Maintenance Steering Group-3 (MSG-3) methodology with a contract valued at $9.8 million.
Hexagon’s proven SmartMaintenanceFast solution will serve as the vehicle to transform the RQ-4B Global Hawk’s scheduled maintenance program (SMP). Adopting the program will provide invaluable platform safety, high-performance aircraft and affordability for the RQ-4B, ensuring more effective and efficient maintenance over its entire life cycle.
“We’re glad to be working again with the Air Force to add efficiency, sustainability and reliability to its Global Hawk fleet,” said Emma Rich, Hexagon senior vice president. “Our extensive technical expertise and renowned maintenance program solutions are an excellent fit to ensure the RQ-4B is mission-ready for years to come.”
In response to the United States Department of Defense’s aging aircraft fleets, declining budgets and increasing maintenance costs, Hexagon developed SmartMaintenanceFast, an innovative MSG-3 program for military aircraft and helicopters. The SmartMaintenanceFast solution was also successfully applied in similar efforts for the C-5, UH-1N, F-15 and E-8 JSTARS programs.
Hexagon’s past MSG-3 work with both commercial and legacy military aircraft ensures a proven, low-risk application of best practices for RQ-4B. The program ensures full compliance with Airlines for America standards, as well as military-unique regulations, policies, missions and environmental practices.
Work began last month in Warner Robins, Georgia.
